Sharing your pregnancy with family abroad
Maryna contacted me early on in her pregnancy to book a late summer maternity shoot in the Lavaux vineyards. She knew exactly what she was looking for and trusted me to make location and styling recommendations. With family back in South Africa it was important to have images to share at each stage of their journey. As well as wanting pictures to commemorate this special first pregnancy moment, she wanted to capture something of their new life in Switzerland. For me, this was lovely and clear: we needed timeless pictures of the two of them before they became three; and sweeping vistas of the Lavaux and Lac Léman landscape.
Summer maternity photos in the vineyards
We met up in the Lavaux in the late afternoon. Even in late summer, the sun can be very strong and I recommend picking early mornings or evenings for the best light. Maryna had been sharing possible outfits with me before the shoot and we spent a bit of time beforehand going through the accessories and dresses she had brought with her.
As the sun was still high, we started off in the little village where it was a bit cooler. I like to leave your ideal place to shoot until near the end of the shoot. This gives you time to warm up and means that we can really get the maternity pictures you want. Oftentimes we come up with some unexpected images too and a completely different look.
After the village we had a quick wardrobe change and headed into the vines. I picked a spot that was easily accessible for Maryna and we were very careful not to disturb the plants or growing grapes. Most of the images were captured just on the edge of the vines, changing our position to the sun and looking for different backgrounds. All the time chatting and getting to know one another. By the end of the shoot I had a good idea of what they were looking for, and they knew what to expect from the newborn shoot due in just under two months.
Planning your maternity and newborn photography
If you know you would like maternity and newborn photography I recommend getting in touch with me well in advance. Planning ahead allows me to help you choose the best time for the photos you want. It also gives you more choice of dates as my weekends get booked up very quickly. Maryna has been super organised throughout our whole baby’s first year. I love the way she knows what she wants, books it in early and then, on the day, just lets me do my thing. It feels like a real collaboration and we have gotten some fantastic photos together.
Maryna chose a four-session files collection with the option to add on extra files. After each session she chose a small selection of her favourites to download and print at home. The flexibility of my shoots means that you can schedule the sessions at times which suit you. Pick your favourite times of the year or key moments in your baby’s development.
For newborn and baby’s first year photography in Switzerland, I offer a wide range of different photography collections. With a choice of downloadable high-resolution files, albums, canvases and prints there is a personal way of you to remember these special moments. If you would like to book a baby photo shoot, please get in touch for collection pricing and availability.
