Bubbles and Raindrops: A Wedding Exit to Bubbles Story

The clouds had been gathering all day, and the sky was drawing darker. Midway through the church wedding ceremony at the Temple de Commugny, the thunder cracked and the rain began to hammer down. It reminded me of my own wedding where something similar happened—I didn’t mind at all, just hiked up my dress and carried on.

That’s why I love this particular wedding exit to bubbles photo so much—it’s unexpectedly perfect.

The Story Behind the Wedding Exit to Bubbles

A few brave souls ventured into the rain with umbrellas for the wedding exit, but most guests clustered near the church doors. As the storm passed, the sky began to brighten. With everyone huddled close, I climbed up the outside staircase to the organ loft for the perfect vantage point.

As the bride and groom stepped out, their guests began blowing bubbles. The bubble wedding exit felt joyful and intimate, framed beautifully by the dark clothing of the crowd and highlighted by the soft side light.

The result? A series of wedding exit to bubbles photos that captured not just the couple, but also their loved ones’ reactions. My favourite shot includes a little baby, utterly entranced by the bubbles swirling all around her—completely unaware of the rain that had just fallen.

Why Bubble Wedding Exits Are So Magical

Images like this remind me that wedding moments don’t have to be perfectly staged. A bubble send-off creates a playful, light-filled exit without the mess of confetti or rice. The reflections and shimmer of bubbles in photographs make them an ideal choice for couples who want something natural, fun, and unforgettable.

What struck me most about this day was how the closeness of the guests, combined with the sparkle of bubbles and clearing rain, created a once-in-a-lifetime moment I could never have planned.

Finding the Moments

At weddings, it’s easy for planning and coordination to take over. But sometimes, the best memories come from spontaneous, unplanned beauty. This bubble wedding exit is one I’ll always keep in mind: the light, the laughter, the rain—and the bubbles tying it all together.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this story. We’ll leave this happy couple dodging raindrops under a shower of bubbles. Look out for future posts from their wedding day in Bossey and Coppet, and their stunning Lavaux engagement photo shoot. See more Stories of the Photo here.
