Baby Portraits – Henry at One Year
Capturing one year baby portraits is always such a joy. Over the course of twelve months, I get to see tiny newborns transform into curious toddlers full of personality. Every stage brings something new, but there’s something especially magical about that first birthday milestone. Babies are discovering the world, often starting to stand or even taking their very first steps. When I met little Henry and his mum Stéphanie just before his birthday, he was right in that delightful stage—steadying himself on her hands, smiling proudly, and showing off the first signs of independence.
First Steps in the Woods
One of the highlights of photographing Henry’s one year baby portraits was seeing him take those wobbly but determined steps. He still preferred holding onto his mum’s fingers, but he loved the freedom of moving around on his own. These early steps are such a wonderful moment to capture, and they make portraits at this age so full of life.
Woodland-Themed Portraits
Stéphanie had chosen a woodland theme for Henry’s birthday, and it could not have been more perfect. She booked a small refuge in the beech forest near Gland, which gave us an incredible backdrop for photos. The soft December light filtered gently through the trees, creating a dreamy setting for natural portraits. While the days are shorter and colder in winter, Henry was bundled up warmly in his little quilted vest and checked shirt. He happily stomped through the mud and leaves, adding playful energy to the images.
Portraits with His Toy Bunny
Among all the photos we captured, my favorites are the ones of Henry with his cuddly toy bunny. Holding it close, he gazed at the camera with his big, sparkling blue eyes. The connection between child and comfort toy makes these images timeless. They are the kind of one year baby portraits that families treasure for years—whether framed on the wall or printed in a keepsake album. They freeze a fleeting stage of childhood that passes far too quickly.
Ending the Day
As the afternoon light faded, we wrapped up our portraits and headed back indoors for the birthday party. Stéphanie had prepared a beautiful woodland-themed celebration, complete with delicious homemade baking. It was the perfect ending to a special day. Henry’s first year had been full of growth, joy, and milestones, and these portraits will always remind his family of this precious chapter.
