Lutry summer family photo shoot | Lake Geneva and it’s vineyards

Gemma and Ben booked me for a Lutry summer family photo shoot. The place they chose in Lutry by the lake was important to them as it was where they were married. We had taken their couple wedding photos here so, it was really nice to go back with their daughter.

A Lutry family photo shoot

The family were on a surprise birthday mini-break for dad. They were revisiting Lutry four years after their wedding. Gemma wanted to go back to the places they had been, the places their daughter had only seen in photographs. She especially wanted to capture family photos in the spots where they had taken their wedding portraits. The idea was to incorporate these images into their normal family photos. So, Gemma opted for a files collection. She would choose the number of images she wanted to download after the session. I made them available to download in colour and black & white, and she could add on prints later.

A summer’s morning by the lake

We met up in the car park early on a Sunday morning. Because the family were only in town for a couple of days I had kept the Sunday clear in case the weather was bad over the weekend. The day was clear and bright. Starting early is great for capturing the energy of your kids and also for much better light in the summer.

After catching up and meeting little Joséphine we headed to the old port. This was one of the first locations where we had taken wedding portraits. I had spent some time going back over their wedding photos and had a couple of ideas in mind. It can be hard to get young children to do exactly what you want, and I prefer happy kids to perfect pictures. Joséphine was great fun and full of her own personality. So, I kept the ideas in the back of my mind and when the two things came together it was a bonus. We walked along looking at the boats, balancing on the wall and playing hide and seek. We even managed a quick recreation of one of Gemma’s favourite wedding images before Joséphine was off running around.

Overlooking the lake

After the lake, we headed up to where the reception had been in the vineyards of the Domaine du Daley. A quick snack to refuel and we headed into the vineyards. The Domaine du Daley has a beautiful view over Lake Geneva and the morning sun lit everything up perfectly. We did some ‘first dances’ with mum and daughter and some running through the vines. As Joséphine began to run out of energy, she helped me take some pictures just of mum and dad. I like to involve children in their photography sessions. Everything makes more sense if you can have a go yourself, and I’m never precious about my equipment.

Reliving the memories

For their family shoot, we revisited some of the memorable locations in Lutry from Gemma and Ben’s wedding day. I kept in mind some of the images we had created and looked for new ways to relive the memories. Gemma chose her 25 favourite images to download as high-resolution files. Two weeks later, I sent the link to her images in colour and black & white. The files allow her to print up to about A4 prints at home and my studio printer can print up to A3. Larger prints can be ordered from my professional lab in Scotland or via your online gallery.

I have a number of family photo shoot options including different numbers of files. I also offer high-quality albums, canvases, frames and prints. If you would like to know more or to book a summer session, please get in touch to find out if I have availability.
