Baby Girl Newborn Portraits at 9 Days Old
Karina and Luiz reached out before Christmas to book baby girl newborn portraits of their daughter, Olivia. They contacted me well in advance, which meant I could meet her at just 9 days old. The session was a thoughtful baby shower gift from Karina’s friends—one that turned into timeless memories.
I focused on capturing classic portraits of their newborn baby girl while also documenting family life at home. This mix of posed and lifestyle photography is my favourite approach. It tells a story that feels both natural and deeply personal.
A Christmas-Themed Newborn Photo Shoot
Their home felt magical, decorated for the holidays. Mini Santa hats perched on figurines, a Christmas village sparkled on the hallway table, and an exquisite tree stood tall in the living room. Beneath it, Karina and Luiz held the greatest gift of all: their baby girl.
We began with quiet, natural newborn portraits of Olivia in her parents’ arms. After a quick outfit change into a Christmas gift outfit, we paused to let her feed. Throughout the session, Olivia remained calm and curious, either curled up happily or gazing at the lights around her.
These moments capture what I love most about newborn photography—the emotion of parents holding their child. Unlike studio portraits filled with props, these photographs show Olivia safe, loved, and at home. For Karina and Luiz, these images will always bring back the memory of what it felt like to hold her as a newborn.
Classic Baby Girl Portraits
In addition to the lifestyle Christmas photos, we created classic family portraits. While setting up, I couldn’t resist capturing a candid moment of Olivia’s big brother Gabriel lying on the floor beside her. His roadmap play mat made the scene even more personal.
We moved between Olivia’s nursery and her parents’ bedroom, using natural light wherever possible. December light can be tricky, so I kept flash use minimal and gentle. Olivia preferred the changing mat to her cot, so we styled it with toys sent by her grandparents. The result was a very special portrait that blended family life with timeless photography.
One of my favourite images from the day shows Olivia lying on the bed, gazing curiously at me while the family prepared in the background. She matched the décor perfectly, and it felt like a glimpse into daily life—a small moment repeated many times in her first year.
Newborn Photography in Your Home
These baby girl newborn portraits took place at home just days after Olivia was born. We worked at a relaxed pace, ensuring both baby and parents felt comfortable. Afterward, I designed a draft Storybook album so Karina and Luiz could personalise it with their favourite images.
If you’re considering gifting a newborn photo session, I recommend speaking with the parents first. It’s important to make sure they know what to expect and feel comfortable with the process. I offer gift sessions, but it’s best to confirm the amount covers the full experience or that the parents are happy to contribute. Booking early in pregnancy also guarantees availability.
Newborn photography is about more than pictures—it’s about preserving those fleeting first days in a way that feels authentic and meaningful. Olivia’s portraits show just how beautiful those early memories can be.
