Covered Bridge Engagement Photo in Wettingen
For their engagement shoot in Wettingen, Taoyi and Christoph chose the Klosterkirche (Wettingen Abbey Church) and the nearby river. This session also gave us the chance to scout locations for their upcoming wedding day portraits. Since their ceremony would take place in the Klosterkirche itself, we ventured a little further afield for something unique.
To reach the river, we crossed a traditional Swiss covered bridge. These bridges are iconic, but they can sometimes appear too touristic in photos. That is why I aimed to create a covered bridge engagement photo that highlighted not just the architecture, but also the couple’s authentic connection.
The Story
On the bridge, the late summer light wrapped around Taoyi and Christoph. The wooden beams framed them in a way that could suggest an old house or even a chapel with stained glass. Just before this image, I had encouraged them to relax by spinning, dancing, and laughing together. Then, the perfect moment arrived: they forgot the camera and simply enjoyed being with each other.
This covered bridge engagement photo captures that intimacy. The bridge adds atmosphere without overpowering the couple. On a hot summer’s day, stepping into the shaded wooden passage feels like entering natural air conditioning. The cooler air and softer light gave the scene its timeless quality. For me, it’s always about returning the focus to the couple, even when surrounded by the beauty of Wettingen.
Balancing People and Place
Photographing in Switzerland often means balancing dramatic landscapes with human connection. A covered bridge engagement photo in Wettingen shows both—the couple’s joy and the essence of the place. My approach is to capture wide shots that tell the story of the setting, alongside close moments that preserve raw emotion. Together, they create a complete memory.
